Me & My Shadow

What's It Wednesday #102
I've always loved silhouettes. I've made them of the kids when I taught kindergarten using an overhead projector. I wanted to make one of the grand baby, but as you know they're only still when sleeping (light bulb!).

I poured over photographs searching for profile shots. When I found some I felt confident I could work with, I made photocopies. Then with the tiniest scissors I could find, I folded the paper in half and began to snip. This gives you a mirror image of the photo (without the overhead, or the sitting still!)

Thrilled with my little creations I wanted a unique way to display them. Each one represents a milestone so (ding!) a growth chart.

I remember the door jam of our family home with growth marks for all us kids at various stages. Moving away (or painting) destroys those memories. I wanted his to be permanent Sooo...

I bought a behind the door mirror, and spray painted it with chalkboard paint. Then I super glued this expandable hat rack to it. I used an empty picture frame and some wooden letters to spell the young master's name. Of course the appropriate gold to top it off, this architectural piece. A classic growth chart that can grow and go with him!

The knobs allow you to hang on as many silhouettes as you like. I record his height and weight on the image to mark each year. I'm so happy with it. Hope you and your little shadows have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Hugs,
Patti

Twas the Month Before Christmas

What's It Wednesday # 101

Twas the month before Christmas, and all through my home
All the silver has been polished, even the chrome.
The crystal has been placed on the table with care
Candles are displayed in groups and in pairs.

My parents wedding china, silver and white
Make the table look festive, inviting, and bright.
This strong lady of elegance,  decked out in red
At the head of the table, next to the bread.

This silver fella, looking like a line-backer
Stands sentinel, guarding, he's by favorite nut-cracker
Each day I pull out more Santas, more wreaths , more stuff
My husband looks on in dismay, he hollers "Enough!"

But I exclaim to him "Dear, we must deck the halls"
Black Friday is coming, we will hit all the malls."
I then hear him sigh, then shake his head
Then I remember "Pinterest before bed"

As I continue to tweak, plan and fluff
Not putting out everything? Wow, that is tough!
But that's okay, we all love to do what we do
I get to see what you do, All season through.

Happy decking the halls everyone!

Roll call: Who else is out there decorating early this year?

Party Time

What's It Wednesday #100
Welcome to the one-hundredth What's It Wednesday! I can't believe how quickly time has flown. Our little party has grown through the support of some very dear friends and followers.

It has been as much a pleasure to see the fabulous creations and beautiful designs you share, as it has been sharing our treasures with you.

We are aware of the hundreds of great parties out there, (we attend quite a few ourselves!) so we really appreciate each and every one of you who choose to link to What's It Wednesday.

We also want to express our gratitude to all of you who leave such wonderful and encouraging comments. We read all of them and cherish each one.

The past two years have passed so quickly it's like a blur. We have made so many wonderful friendships through blogging. It feels as if we are an extended family, all trying hard to stay in touch with each other.

Paula and I both wish we had more time for blogging, but family and careers must come first. So we sometimes don't get to visit as often as we'd like, but know that are hearts are with you.

So as time runs out, and I must put this post to bed, ( and me too) I thank you and invite you all to continue or join in partying with us. You are always welcome!

Big Hugs,
Patti
